Research and Development at Marfeed: A Dynamic Process

At Marfeed, we understand that research and development is not a straightforward journey from A to Z, but rather a dynamic process involving testing, learning, and constant re-evaluation.

By partnering with some of the most knowledgeable companies and institutions in aquaculture, we maximise the impact of our research, enhance our understanding, and deliver high-quality, thoroughly documented products to the market.

To achieve this, we employ advanced methods to analyse and differentiate the chemistry of our products. We develop techniques to trace raw materials and products throughout production, ensuring their biological activity, efficacy, and sustainability at every stage.

In vitro and in vivo, we use zebrafish models, salmonid cell cultures, and controlled feeding trials in all our target species. Zebrafish models are an efficient screening tool for preliminary evaluation of ingredients as they offer more extensive research possibilities than other fish species. With Zebrafish, we utilise different genetic strains and fluorescent labelling of cells to gain a deep understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of ingredients and their impact on an organism’s responses. Our areas of investigation include oxidation, gut histology, cell motility and activation, growth and development, metabolism, immunity, behaviour, and morphology. Our findings are then followed up in target species.

To fully evaluate our Marfeed products' practical benefits, we conduct field trials worldwide, testing their impact on animal welfare and productivity in real-world settings. These trials allow us to ensure that our products deliver measurable value to the aquaculture industry.
